1. Import Shx File Into Civil 3d File
  2. How To Import A Shx File Into Civil 3d

Here's what MicroStation help says (under title Using GIS Files) about importing SHAPE files. Shapefiles (.shp) require at least three files in the same directory, with the same name and with the following extensions:.SHP (shape format; describe the feature geometry such as points, polylines, and polygons),.SHX (shape index format; a positional index of the feature geometry to allow. Export Shapefile from Autodesk Civil 3D - Exporting and Importing SHP Files From Civil 3D#Export #shapefile #autodesk #civi3d #import #shp #shpfileCONNECT WI. A lot of GIS people send out zip files with.shx (shape) files. You can import them into civil 3d and get linework that is on a set coordinate system. There are other softwares that can open.shx files like ArcGIS.

As CAD managers, drafters, and designers, we all need at some point to look at a pdf file, import the file, and in some instances use and edit the text as well. This post will show you how to convert SHX font geometry to text after importing a PDF file in AutoCAD. You ensure good text recognition by specifying the SHX font name used. Unlike other fonts, SHX fonts import as lines, arcs, circles, and other geometry instead of text.

PDF files are the most common file format used when exchanging design information between designers, contractors, clients, and others. AutoCAD 2017 introduced the ability to import PDF files. The PDFIMPORT command imports PDF data into AutoCAD as 2D geometry, TrueType text, and images.

Let’s first import the data. On the insert tab of the Ribbon select the PDF Import button.

Notes: Adobe’s PDF file format doesn’t recognize AutoCAD SHX fonts. When a PDF file is created from an AutoCAD drawing, text that was defined with SHX fonts is stored in the PDF as geometry. When you import the file you get lines and arcs that define the text object. With AutoCAD 2018 you have a new text recognition tool that enables you to select imported PDF geometry representing SHX text and convert it to text objects. You can find this on the import tab of the Ribbon as shown.

After selecting the file you will see the Import PDF dialog box where you will have several options on how you want the file to be imported.

  1. PDF data to import: Options to select how your data will import.
  2. Do you want layers?
  3. Preview of the imported file.
  4. Import options – several options for blocks, hatches, and lineweights.
  5. Alternate options for importing the file
  6. Select OK.

Once you drawing is imported follow the workflow on the ribbon. Here is where you can recognize the SHX Text, Change Settings and Combine Text.

Here is a quick Video showing you how to import a PDF file into AutoCAD and then Recognize the SHX text changing those lines to editable text objects.

That’s all my friends – enjoy the rest your weekend and I will see you in Vegas at Autodesk University 2018! This may be my last post for a while as I have to study, prepare, and practice on my weekends and nights while also spending time with my family and friends.

Have a great rest of the weekend and start to your week wherever in the World you may be!

Until next month, Sam

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Importing DGN Files

Apr 22, 2013

I am using different functions in Civil 3D 2012 in order to import DGN files.
Open->DGN
MapImport->DGN
Import->DGN
Everytiome I receive '0 object(s) inserted in 0 sec(s)'.
Obviously importing is not working! Am I missing some object enabler or is a system variable incorrect?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Importing SHP Files

Feb 15, 2013

I am trying to import a SHP file to obtain a surface. The imported data come in a polyline.
The data containt x and y as well as elevation. But, when I use the command
' mapimport ' , the imported data only have 4 elevation ( 1,2,3 and 4). This is rather unexpected because the line represent the topography of a large area.
I am working under Civil-3D 2013. The original data are okay, they were exported from GIS and they works fine on this station.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Error Importing PTX And LAS Files

May 30, 2013

I am trying to import PTX or LAS files into Civil 3D and keep getting coordinate errors. Meaning, the scan data comes in at the right size (I've verified dimensions in RealityLINx) but for some reason the scans keep coming in close to the 0,0,0 point. I have tried two seperate projects, one with arbituary coords (7000, 7000, 600) and another with state plane coords (NAD27, Zone 5).
I have tried two ways... Through the Prospector using the CREATEPOINTCLOUD command. The scan data is in metric units and I have not found a way to convert the scan data, in Civil 3D, to feet units.
The other way I have tried is through the POINTCLOUDINDEX command. This command will convert my PTX or LAS files into a PCG and upon insertion into the drawing, I am able to give it a scale factor to try and convert to feet.
Like I said, I have done this all day today, with separate projects and keep getting the same results. I have inserted the scan data in both metric and feet units, measured identical objects and have come up with the same dimensions between the both units. But I still cannot get them to land where they need to.
I am unsure if this is a coordinate system error but most of the stuff that we scan is in an arbitrary system, so I am not sure if assigning a coordinate system will do the trick.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Importing KMZ Files Into 2013?

Mar 22, 2013

Can I import KMZ files into AutoCAD Civil 3D R.2013, or do I need to purchase an add-on package that will make it work? Does it work with just AutoCAD Map 3D?
If not, how do you import KMZ files into AutoCAd Civil 3D?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Importing Shaped Files

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Unable To Assign Coordinate System When Importing LAS Files

Aug 8, 2012

I have been trying to import LAS files via Civil 3D 2011.
To do this I first turn the workspace to 'Tool based geospatial'. Then i assign a global coordinate system which is the same one as the LAS file i am importing. The in the task pane window (command: mapwspace) under display manager tab i right click on map base --> data --> add point cloud data --> create new index and then choose the file I want to import. Here i have some trouble; in the create new index window i am unable to assign a coordinate system, i can find the one i need but i cant select it (or any other), it persists on staying unselected. I am able to create an index without a coordinate system but I need it with the right coordinates.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Importing Multiple Building Sites As ADSK Files

Jan 2, 2014

I am working on a project where I need to bring in multiple building site files from Revit as .adsk files to one Civil 3D model. The first building always imports just fine. For any building after the first, I get the following message:
'The selected file contains a definition of a building site that is already in use.'
'What would you like to do?'
'Update the definition of the existing building site (cancel the import and use the selected file to update the definition of the existing building site.)' - THIS OPTION REPLACES THE FIRST BUILDING WITH THE NEW BUILDING I HAVE SELECTED
'Browse to another file (display the file browse dialog to select a different file.)'
My team and I have tried every we can think of including the following (see attached):
Renaming the files Moving the files to different folders Importing each building site into a new file and copy and pasting into the model (this works until someone tries to import a building site, which will inevitably happen and ruin this work around)Double-checking all related settings.

AutoCad :: DGN Files Not Importing?

Sep 12, 2011

I am trying to import DGN (Microstation) files in AutoCAD but it does not work. Initially, I had tried with ACAD version 2012 and subsequently tried versions 2011 and 2010. Neither worked.
I think I have read most of the threads relating to this topic, but none seem to address my case, which is:
I use dgnimport command, select the file and check the following options: Import in the current drawing, Ignore duplicate names, desgin model from DGN file 'Default', translate references to blocks or xrefs, DGN units to convert to Master units, mapping setup 'Standard'. I click OK.
What happens next is... nothing. Well, not exactly. It does import layers, text styles, blocks, etc. But there is nothing (no drawing) in the model or paper spaces. And from previews and accompanying pdf files, there should be plenty of drawing objects in the file.
The only error log I can see from the text window is that four DGN line styles could not be resolved. But I am hesitant to think such a minor issue would cause the whole drawing to be missing.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: 2012 - Importing MDB Files?

Dec 19, 2011

I’m using AutoCAD MAP 3D 2012. I’m trying to import a .mdb file. The text that I’m working from says because I’m working on a 64 bit machine I will have to download from Microsoft a file called Microsoft Access Database Engine and install the proper drivers. I’ve downloaded the file and run it and rebooted my machine but I still can’t bring in the .mdb file.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing STL Files

Sep 22, 2011

Is Inventor compatible with STL files (probably not as I haven't succeeded getting them in)? I've got an object scanned and need this scan data as template to rebuild the object in Inventor. If STL files can't be imported, are there any other ways how to get point clouds or meshes into Inventor (or is it just impossible)?

AutoCAD LT :: Importing SHX And LIN Files From 2011

Nov 12, 2012

How to import shx and lin files from Autcad LT2011 to version 2013. Each time we upgrade over the years it has been a simple task of saving the 2 files into the program file/autodesk folder however when we try to do this with LT 2013 it doesnt recognise the files. They are from another program called Artisan which uses the Autocad platform. The file extensions are: Artisan.shx and Atrisan.lin.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: Importing Shape Files

I am working in AutoCAD map 3D 2011. From my research online, I understand it should be able to import shape files whereas normal versions cannot. I am unable to get my version to recognize the cesus tiger shape files. I am interested in the road information only. I have noticed online that that there should be a 'map' or 'mapping' option on my toolbar and there is not.

AutoCAD .NET :: Automate Importing Microstation Files

Sep 22, 2010

I'm trying to automate importing Microstation files into AutoCad (and then doing interesting things with them). I'm stuck on the import, as it keeps throwing an 'Invalid Argument Exception'.
I've thrown empty strings, 'hello world' strings, ensured that the string points to a valid file, ensured that the string points to a valid Microstation file... for the scale factor, I've thrown constants, symbolic constants, variable doubles... and where I think the error lies, the insertion point, I've thrown Points, Point 2d's, Point 3d's, arrays of integers, arrays of doubles, and Acad Points, and all of the above even cast as objects.
Supposedly, the signature for import is:
object IAcadDocument.Import(string FileName, object Insertion Point, double ScaleFactor)
but the <object Insertion Point> is throwing me... what kind of object is wanted? The following is a complete working program; you'll just have to add the two autocad references.
using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Linq;
using System.Text;
[code]....
(Obviously the intent is not to use hard coded file names, these are for debug purposes. I'm also running as a Windows project rather than a Console project, but the exception is the same.)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Export / Importing STL Files

Dec 28, 2012

A couple months ago I could export to STL files using Inventor Pro 2012 and a third party could open them on whatever platform they are using. Now when I export to STL files, the third party cannot open them and I cannot open them either on the Inventor Pro 2012 platform. Nothing has changed since the originals were sent to the third party. I have read some of the threads, but there is a lot of STL, none of the ones I read address this problem. The properties from Windows Explorer say the file type is Certificate Trust List (.stl).

AutoCAD 2013 :: Importing Dwg Files Into Maya

Jul 23, 2012

We have maya 2012 and autocad 2013. Does direct connect 2011 allow you to import autocad dwg files into maya? If not, has Autodesk updated direct connect as a maya/autocad plug in so we can use dwgs between the two programs? I can't get support to answer this, they keep saying 'we monitor the forums, ask there.' So, here goes! Autodesk ought to take a lesson from zbrush, who imports/exports with one button now!

AutoCad :: When Importing DXF Files Text Gets Shifted

May 21, 2013

I use autocad (version 2002) to draw 2D drawings which I then engrave with a rabbit laser engraving unit (model RL-60-9060). The problem I have been experiencing is that in order to engrave these files I have to save my .dwg's as .dxf's which I then import into a program called (laser systems 5.3) when I import these files everything looks fine except for the text which is shifted (only in certain random areas and always to the right) I then have to look at the file very closely and move the text back where it should be, often missing something which makes me have to go through hours of sanding my metal down and repainting it before I can try again. Ive been told that I need to explode the text in autocad to correct the issue, however I have had no success doing this.

AutoCad 2D :: Importing Text Files In DDEDIT

Aug 1, 2013

I would like to know if there is a way to match or import text from a file without doing the whole 'double click, highlight, right click, import text, select folder, select text file' . Kind of how you Matchprop command when you select what you want to match. Maybe have it match from ToolPalettes? Or maybe an IMPORTTEXT lisp that you just have to type in the name of the file you want to bring in.
Example ... we have a 1632PNC screw that reads:
#14 X 4' HWH TEK III,
@ EACH SUPPORT
[1632PNC]
So lets say we want to change it to be a 3' and 1616PNC I would tell it to bring in the imported text from a folder where I have text files and pick the one that reads:
#14 X 3' HWH TEK III,
@ EACH SUPPORT
[1616PNC]
